Repointing essentially means taking the old, ruined mortar out from between bricks and putting in fresh mortar there. Moreover, this adds pointing where needed and does not affect the bricks at all. When you want to save your wall from a complete rebuild, bracing or shoring is one of the best choices.

Mortar is intended to wear under pressure before the brick. It’s a soft, sacrificial coating that protects the harder brick surrounding it. For decades, Georgia's rain and moisture will mean mortar crumbles and washes away normally. If there is too little mortar, water will penetrate behind the brick face, stay there, freeze in winter, and do a lot more expensive damage.

If you catch this early, repointing is a lot cheaper than waiting for brick damage to occur.

Initially, the old mortar is ground out to a consistent depth without damaging the neighboring brick. Take your time when using this tool, as it can cause good brick to crack if you go too fast or too deep. After that, we put in new mortar, and we match the joint style, called the tooling, to the original wall so the repair just blends in.

When working on a historic home in Inman Park, the mortar mix matters. Many older homes were built with a softer mortar unlike present-day cement mortar. Using new-age mortar in a historic brick wall can entrap moisture and eventually harm the brick. Thus, in all repointing work of older homes we test and match original mortar before proceeding.

Our Approach

1. We help you select the right color and coverage area for your home's brick. 
2. Before putting any brick up the existing frame wall is prepared and moisture barrier puts in place. 
3. Metal ties are used to fasten the veneer backing to the frame wall. Brick is laid with a proper air gap left in place for drainage and ventilation. 
4. The base of the wall is where the flashing and weep holes go in to allow trapped moisture to escape. 
5. We carry out a final check of the completed veneer for consistent colour, joints and coverage.
